Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho...

...It's back to work I go.

When I retired, I knew that would being doing this... occasionally. I was already volunteering my time at the school to work with a new teacher in process of clearing her credential. I had to wait 180 days before I could do any kind of paid work in the field of education as a stipulation of my STRS (the agency responsible for my retirement pay.) That 180 days was up on December 04. So I went and applied to become a substitute teacher, because there was no way I was going to waste the money I spent on renewing my teaching credential last year (and it's good for five years).

In conjunction, one of the teachers at the school I worked at the past nine years went on maternity leave shortly before the winter break, and I told the school I would be interested in covering her class until she returned from her leave, once I was hired as a sub by the county.

TL;DR - I will be subbing for a 6th grade ELA/History class for the next few months.

That also means that I will have limited time to work on art again (evenings and weekends only). I'm going to try to make that count, we'll see how it works.

Goals for the New Year

I don't necessarily do "resolutions" because they seem so rigid and untenable. But I do have goals for what I want to accomplish this year.

  • I want to do more personal art again this year (esp after seeing in my YIR art collection that most of my art was comic work. :/)
  • I want to grow my fishing rod repair business, especially now that my husband got me a pretty state of the art piece of equipment for the job.
  • I want to get out of this writing funk so I can complete my manuscript for Saying No, and successfully forward Midnight Rider.
  • Instagram has been a hellacious time suck lately and I need to scale back on that doomscrolling.
  • To publish a book again this year would be nice.
